The world of web design is a huge and booming franchise, and the question that was on my lips when it first started was, how to get into web design?

Over the years and by some trials and errors on my part, I finally got into the world of web design, and I am glad I did. So, to all those out there asking the same overwhelming question I asked a few years back – “how to get into web design?”, this is for you.

Although we may not be able to cover everything that you need to know (skills, technologies, process, and tools), this article coupled with constant learning and development over time would ensure that you do get into the world of web design.

The best way to learn web design or get into web design is by doing it. There are no two ways to it. You want something, and you get it. Period!

How to Get into Web Design

Who needs this?

Well, virtually everybody needs this, but it is mainly intended for those that want to start web designing either for themselves or for others.
With no coding skills, experience, or education on web design, you can get into web design and perform brilliantly. Note – It is not failsafe, but it’s a brilliant process.
Let’s take it a step at a time, shall we?

Step 1: Research and Read

You are successfully halfway through with step 1 because you’ve scoured the internet for materials to use in your quest to get into web design.

Read every material that you come across, try it out, come back for more reading, and try it out again.

Never stop improving yourself. Read, Research, Research, Read. Repeat.

Step 2: Design

In web design, one thing is certain – DESIGN!!!
Design is an integral part that cannot be left out from designing your content to designing your website.
With that said, the first step to develop a webpage is to design the webpage’s content.

Design The Content

One mistake I made while creating my first website was making my content fit into my design. It was meant to be the other way around; The design to fit the content and not the content to fit the design. It took me quite a while to figure this out, but I obviously did in the end.

Get the texts, photos, documents, contact details, and information. Use the dummy text “Lorem Ipsum” to design your page. This helps you give a fill of what your page would look like with contents.

Start the Design

Build your first website with the help of a website builder.

If you’ve not undergone a web design course at some of the best schools for web design and development, you can engage the expertise of an online website builder, such as Elementor Pro.

Wix is an online website builder that allows you to build your website with all the freedom that you need. The uniqueness and personal customization that you desire is what they have on offer for you.

If you feel that you cannot do this yourself, it is advisable that you get the services of a freelance website designer. Fiverr is an online freelance company that provides whatever services you require; a writer, a content developer, or a freelance website designer.

However, we strongly advise that you undergo an online web design course on Team Treehouse. Team Treehouse is an online platform that gives over 25,000 courses and a flexible timeframe for you.

Make Your Own Website

To make your own website, you will need a reliable web hosting provider. While there are many web hosting providers out there, my favorite to start is Fastcomet.

    • It makes use of a wide range of impressive client interfaces to help you build and manage your sites easily.
    • It’s trusted by over 2 million domain owners, that’s a favorable odd for you.
    • It has numerous tools and services that help host your website and create a seamless website management platform.

Crack out your HTML and CSS

HTML stands for “Hypertext Markup Language.” HTML is the building block for all website, while CSS which stands for “Cascading Style Sheets” defines the layout of your website.

While HTML creates the structure of the website you design, CSS makes it look colorful and presentable to you and the viewers.
These two together are the easiest computer languages that you can learn, and Team Treehouse is just the right learning platform for it.

Then take a wild swipe at JavaScript. JavaScript is a basic programming language that makes you do things that the HTML and CSS cannot do. It is not really a necessity for your first website, but it is something that you can learn for future purposes.

Draw Up a Wireframe

A wireframe is as a result of your brainstorming. How do I make this website better? Do I add colors? Do I add animations and scroll effects? Do I make use of images and space? Do I need more typography or more navigation? Or do I need to design more forms?
Basically, a wireframe is the blueprint of the website. It entails and shows just what the website will be, and in simple terms, it is a sketch (guess I should have made this the first statement).
